Colorado Pub Trip - Day One 12/26/07

We left Denver early enough to stop in Idaho Springs on our way to Frisco. We stopped at TommyKnocker (http://www.tommyknocker.com/). This is a really cute pub in an equally cute town. We got the sampler which included Alpine Glacier Lager, Tundrabeary Ale, Maple Nut Brown Ale, Black Powder Stout, Butt Head Bock, Jack Whacker Wheat Ale, Ornery Amber Lager, Pick Axe Pale Ale, Cocoa Porter and Imperial Nut Brown.

Tony liked the Black Powder Stout and the Pick Axe Pale Ale. I also liked the Pick Axe and the Cocoa Porter.

We snacked on chips, salsa and guacamole (which were very good). Tony got a bread bowl of the Buffalo Roadhouse Red Chili and I tried the Tomato Swiss Artichoke Soup. They were both very tasty. The soup was a little weird at first but it really grew on me. It had a little too much dill but it was very good.

While in Idaho Springs, we took a brief shopping stop to Canyon Trading and I bought a new coat. While this has nothing to do with beer, it is important to the trip because my new coat is both cute and warm.

In the evening we made our way to Breckenridge Brewery in Breckenridge, CO (http://www.breckbrew.com/). I have had their Vanilla Porter before and love it. Tony drank the Avalanche Ale. We ate excellent wings and split the fish and chips. Otherwise, we were not as impressed with the Breckenridge Brewery. The town was very cute and had lots of shops for skiers to visit.

On the way back to the hotel we decided to stop in Frisco at Backcountry Brewery. I'm so glad we did. They had the best IPA we've had so far on this trip. (http://www.backcountrybrewery.com/Beers.htm). We played a little pool and watched Purdue in the Motor City Bowl. It was a great stop!

Kind Ale IPA @ Flossmoor

The newest batch of IPA is available at Flossmoor Station. As usual, it is awesome. Tony and I each had two last night (although he is a mug club member so two for him is more than mine)! I didn't have my camera with me but, fear not Beer Blog readers... I'm certain we'll be back to the Station very soon.

The IPA, which they say has "just a touch of Lemon grass and Wheat Grass along with buckets full of Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit hops" has a bit of a lighter taste than other IPAs. I'm anxious to see how this one matures over the next week or two as we continue to visit.
